Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between BANT and MEDDIC?

BANT — budget, authority, need, timing — is a fast, lightweight qualification suited to transactional deals. MEDDIC goes much deeper on metrics, decision process and champion, which fits complex enterprise cycles with many stakeholders.

Is BANT still relevant?

For shorter sales cycles, yes. Its weakness is that it checks whether someone can buy without examining how the decision actually gets made, which is where longer deals stall.

What does the C in MEDDIC stand for?

Champion — someone inside the account who advocates for you when you are not in the room. In MEDDICC the second C is competition.

When should I disqualify a deal?

When there is no compelling event and no identified pain. Those two gaps together mean the buyer has no reason to act, and a deal without a reason to act consumes pipeline without ever closing.
